Dental technicians are highly trained people who are responsible in creating prostheses for a dentist’s patients. They produce full and partial dentures, crowns, bridges, braces and other orthodontic appliances. They strictly follow the instructions that are sent to them by the dentist. Each and every one of the items that they form is in accordance to the specifications for a particular patient. They make use of molds or impressions of the patient’s mouth to come up with a perfect piece of prostheses. Along with that, they verify with the dentist if they have the correct information on what they should do. Accuracy and precision are two things that are very important for this job. That’s why dental technicians are taught how to interpret such instructions from the dentist.

Other than the molds and impressions, dental technicians work on their craft with the help of small hand tools. Some key traits that are truly helpful in this field are as follows. A dental tech must be able to work for long hours without distraction. They should be able to create a definite model of what the dentist has instructed. In case they weren’t able to build the right appliance, this will be sent back to them for remodeling or they may need to make a new one from scratch. There are various ways that a dental technician receives his or her training and education. Although there is no standard education or training required to be a dental tech, employers highly prefer applicants who are armed with a diploma or a certification. The lucky ones get hired straight out from high school. These individuals earn their on-the-job training once they are employed. Most of them receive their continuing education while working. The formal training program for dental technicians is available in vocational schools, technical colleges and even hospitals. Once an individual completes the program, he or she will be granted an associate’s degree or a certificate. There are even schools that offer a four-year course for dental technology. Dental technicians who pursue this kind of education are given a bachelor’s degree.

The work place of a dental tech is called a commercial laboratory. This is where the dentists send the models and impressions that they need for their patients. It is also possible that a dental technician will only work for a particular dentist while others opt to work for several orthodontic establishments. Since there are various specializations involved in this field, a dental tech may specialize in one area or be skilled with all the tasks. As discussed earlier, precision and exactitude are important in this profession. It is possible that a patient lives miles away from the laboratory where the prostheses are created. It would be a waste of the patient’s time if the appliance would have to be remodeled or sent back to the laboratory because it doesn’t fit him or her. This is the reason why dental technicians are expected to ship orthodontic items that are carefully created with determinacy and veracity.

The job of a pharmacy technician is very intriguing, especially to those who like the idea of dealing with many different kinds of medicines and drugs. So how does one become a pharmacy tech? The same as other technician jobs in the medical industry, this one does not require you to have a formal training or certification. It is true that there is no such thing as a national training standard for pharmacy technicians. But due to recent improvements in the field, employers prefer to hire pharmacy techs that have completed a formal training and secured a certification. An on-the-job training experience is also an edge for aspiring applicants.

If you want to earn a formal training for this career, you must have a high school diploma or at least its equivalent. Education programs specializing in this position are now offered in several institutes. You can enroll in a community college or a vocational school to complete this course. The training program usually lasts around six to twenty four months. The curriculum already includes both classroom and laboratory work. Some of the subjects that will be tackled in this course are pharmaceutical calculations, pharmaceutical terminology and pharmacy law and ethics. The students will also be taught about the names, uses and doses of the medicines that they will be working with. Most of the schools give their students a chance to have hands-on experience in hospitals or pharmacies. Once you have completed the course, you will be given a certificate or an associate’s degree.

If you opt not to enroll in any formal technician training program, then you will still have a chance to work as a pharmacy technician. But mind you, your chances will be very thin as there are more and more individuals who choose to undergo and complete a training program. Some of the pharmacy technicians that are employed today do not have any certification or education about this field. They immediately went on an on-the-job training that may last for about three to twelve months. This depends on one’s pacing to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Proficiency in computers, experience with cash registers and excellent customer service are some of the things that an employer considers in hiring their pharmacy technicians.

A number of places in the United States require their pharmacy techs to get a registration with the State board of pharmacy. The usual requirements for this process are high school diploma and application fee. Certifications can also be acquired from various private organizations. Although it is not a requirement, it will definitely boost up your job application. As mentioned earlier, applicants with formal education and certification have a better chance of getting a job than those who don’t have any. Renewal of certificate is done every two years. This includes twenty hours of continuing education within the two year window. You can accomplish these hours in any college, pharmacy association or training program. Some employers even have this benefit for their pharmacy technicians. The employees can finish up to ten hours of continuing education under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Registered Nursing Salary and Working Environment

Registered nurses are highly competent individuals who promote health and prevent sickness. Their basic function is to provide holistic care to their patients regardless of race, gender or creed. The demand for efficient nurses has increased over the years owing to the fact that the population is increasing. They can work in anywhere from big time companies to nursing homes to physician’s offices.

A Registered Nurse Salary can can fluctuate from as much as $100,000 to as little as $40,000. Nursing salaries can vary and largely depends on specialty, experience, educational attainment and location. The nurse who works in the ward is often called a ward nurse. As a staff nurse, the job ranges from caring for patients in the ward or private room areas. Most nurses start off as staff nurses in various hospital and nursing home settings. Nurses who work in specialty areas earn higher salaries than ward nurses. Operating room nurses prepare the patient for surgery and assist the physician during the surgery. Hemodialysis nurses perform dialysis on patients with kidney diseases. Intensive care unit nurses care for clients requiring close monitoring. Emergency nurses provide first line physical assessment and care for critical patients. These types of nurses are just some of the branches a nurse can specialize in. There are also cases when a nurse doesn’t need to work in a hospital. She can be a company nurse who makes sure that safety and hygienic precautions are maintained at their highest levels or a school nurse who tries to provide students with healthy habits for life. Some nurses become educators who pass their knowledge to the new generation of nurses. As you can see, there are numerous divisions that a nurse can get involved in and the demand for nurses is still going strong.

In order to become a nurse, one must first enroll in a nursing program. In the program, the majority of the subjects involved in nursing include branches of science and mathematics. The most important subjects in nursing include pharmacology, human anatomy and physiology, medical and surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing and finally maternal and child nursing. These subjects contain materials that are tackled daily in a nurse’s job.

There are schools that offer 2 year courses for those who want to enter the world of working as soon as possible. The 2 year course will usually result in an associate’s degree in nursing- the standard requirement for most nurses to start working. A bachelor’s degree in nursing takes around 4 or 5 years to complete. Though the bachelor’s degree is longer, the rewards for earning this level of education is great as many nurses will be able to enter administrative positions because of it.

After graduating, you will be required to take the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX). It is basically an exam that gauges your critical thinking abilities as a nurse and involves everything you’ve learned in school. In the NCLEX, the questions are all placed in ideal settings so real world expectations must not be put into consideration. Most states only require NCLEX passers to work, while other states require nurses to take their state board exam.
